Some useful terms explained for your construction works in the paca region

Aerobics

Aerobic bacteria

ANC (non-collective sanitation a.k.a. “autonomous")

This is the remediation of dwellings that are not connected to the public sewage collection system (sewer)

DTU (Unified Technical Document)

This document defines the current French norms regarding the building works, the execution norms and the implementation as they should be. The sanitation DTU is the NF DTU 64.1 (updated in August 2013).

Rainy waters

Rainwater after runoff (roof, terrace, etc …)

Water valves or sanitary waters

Waters that come from sanitary facilities, mainly loaded with faeces (WC / toilets).

Drainage company

A state certified company that does extraction and transportation of the emptying material from the installation to the disposal site.

Branch study

This helps defining the sanitation system that is best suited to your situation.

Hydrogeological Study (or Parcel Design Study)

It combines the soil study and the branch study. Note that this is BAUMEO Hydro company’s main activity.

Traditional sector

Duct made up of an all waters a septic tank (sewage water), a grease tank (domestic water), and a device using the soil in place or a reconstituted soil (sand, zeolite)

Septic tank

The septic tank was the main device used for the pretreatment of wastewater of yesteryear. Although it is still present in many old installations at present, it is forbidden for years because it can only treat black water.

Hydrogeology

The part of geology that studies groundwater.

Micro station

Purification micro station is an approved non-collective wastewater treatment system and is made up of one tank that is divided into several compartments and an air generator. It uses aerobic bacteria (with oxygen) to destroy the polluting components of the water.

The water treatment of the purification micro station is in three steps:

– Pretreatment, which aims to separate solids from liquids. The solids are stored at the bottom of the tank, the liquids are kept for a secondary treatment.

– The second treatment is done by biological reactor and aims to purify the wastewater thanks to the  aerobic bacteria whose action is enhanced by the oxygenation of the air generator.

– The lat step consists in evacuating water into the ground or by a pipe leading to plants to irrigate.

Project manager

The person in charge of the follow-up and the good execution of the site until the reception of the works: BAUMEO Hydro provides this service.

SPANC (Non Collective Public Sanitation Service)

The service of your town that controls the non-collective sanitation facility installation.

Wastewater

Traditional or certified sector:

Once the waste water has been pre-treated, it must go through secondary treatment, which is done either in the traditional sector or in the certified sector. Unlike primary treatment, this is done with aerobic bacteria.

Waste water treatment is done in two steps:

– Pre-treated waters’ purification

– Purified water’s evacuation

Water purification can be done different ways:

– By spreading directly into the soil;

– By a tile bed

– By an infiltration mound

– By a device filled with plastic fibres, mineral or vegetable as they are filled with bacteria,

– etc …

The evacuation of the purified water takes place after the water has been cleared from all that can pollute or contaminate its receivers.

Purified water can be rejected two ways:

-By infiltrating it into the soil

-With a pipeline that leads to a watercourse

Note that if it was customary to evacuate wastewater in the “sumps”, this practice has been banned for a long time .

Anaerobic

Anaerobic bacteria, bacteria without oxygen

Office of studies

The company that carries out the design study of the installation. BAUMEO Hydro company provides this service.

Domestic waters

Water discharged by domestic installations (kitchen, bathroom and washing machine …). They contain soaps and detergents, but also fats (kitchen).

Waste waters

All the water discharged by the houses: Domestic waste water and waste water make the waste water.

Because they can contain chemical or even toxic substances, waste water from domestic, industrial or commercial facilities can not be rejected as it is in nature.

Maintenance company

The company that carries out the maintenance of sanitation devices. BAUMEO TRAVAUX company provides such service.

Soil study

Allows us to know if the soil is suitable for sewage treatment and infiltration.

Maker

The company that manufactures the non-collective sanitation system and drafted the user guide and technical documentation.

Certified company

Non-traditional company accredited by ministries in charge of Environment and Health (micro station, compact filter, planted filter).

All-water tank

The all-water tank is the main device used for the pre-treatment of wastewater to date. It is a watertight tank that was designed to handle both waste and grey waters in the same tank. The main features of the all-water tank are:

– Holding the solids in the bottom, in the form of sludge, thanks to a pre-filter placed between the pit and the spreading;

– Keeping the fat floating on the surface thanks to a tank placed at the bottom of the all-water tank;

– Using anaerobic bacteria to turn pollutants into liquid;

– Evacuating the gases produced by the action of anaerobic bacteria through a ventilation system.

Fitter

The company that carries out the work. Company BAUMEO TRAVAUX provides this service.

Owner

The owner of the installation

Unitary network

In the collective network: the unitary network on the public domain (in case of connection to the mains drainage) collects wastewater and rainwater in a single pipe.

In a non-collective network: the unitary network collects domestic water and sewage.

Separation network

In case of connection on the collective network: The separating network makes it possible to collect sewage and rainwater separately.
For A.N.C: the separating network makes it possible to collect greywater and sewage separately.

Pretreatment (or primary treatment)

In the collective network: The separating network allows us to collect sewage and rainwater separately.

In a non-collective network: the separating network allows us to collect domestic water and sewage separately.
